A Brilliant Poker Mind
by huge on Aug.06, 2009, under Poker
I think I’ve mentioned before that I sometimes record my online tournaments with a screen capture program that records both the screen and my voice over a microphone. I do it partly for the possibility of publishing them on the blog (though I haven’t published a full video yet - I think I’m a little afraid that no-one would watch it and then I’d feel even sillier than I do already for making the things), partly so I can go back over tournaments later and review how I played and what I was thinking. But the main reason I do the recordings is that it makes me play better - if I can trick myself into believing that I’m speaking (or performing) for an audience it prevents me, in theory at least, from doing anything too idiotic.
As an example of that, I present for you the final few minutes of a tournament I played earlier this afternoon. If you want to see the razor-sharp insight, intricate analysis and unswerving laser-like focus that have taken me so far in the poker world, click on the link below…
A little background: this is a satellite where the final four players will each get an $800 tournament entry (which I can basically convert back into cash). By making it to the final table, all of us have already locked up $77, which means we get our buyin back. The player TiltDennis in the upper right has accumulated a big stack and clearly doesn’t understand satellite dynamics - he could pretty much just fold into the money, but he’s having too much fun being the big-stack-bully - he’s been making minimum raises with very weak hands - recently J5s, before that K7o, and then following them up with random continuation bets, etc. Basically I never give him credit for having much of a hand. OK enough intro
(If you can’t get the video to play you might need to download and install Adobe Flash Player. If you still can’t play it, let me know)
